Tom Cotter's Bio:

Fresno, California-based Tom Cotter is a Solar Expert, Product Innovator, Habit Coach and Climate Educator. His academic and career credentials are wholly dedicated to building a stronger economy, healthier families and a more secure future. In addition, he serves as a Clean Energy Advocate, Carbon Activist, Community Organizer, Board Member, Ordained Minister and Public Speaker.

He notes: “I see the end of the era of cheap fossil fuels and key materials, coupled with rising population and anxieties around water resources, food production and harmful wastes as clearly demonstrating the need to re-imagine our model of production and consumption. It is a source of honor and hope to be able to join the global efforts of ordinary people doing the extraordinary work of creating a delightfully diverse, safe, healthy and just world, with clean air, water, soil and power, that is economically, equitably, ecologically and elegantly enjoyed.”

Tom currently serves as Owner & Product Developer at his company Tom Cotter Designs and is a licensed Tiny Habits® coach. Tom uses a new model of human behavior change to transform people’s lives for the better. He is an expert in how to create habits, has addressed over 2,000 groups, is among the top 10% of influencers on social media and is a frequent Media Adviser on solar, sustainability and green jobs.

Previous career roles include serving as Regional Sales Manager at both Sunrun and Real Goods Solar (where he was also a Solar Power Consultant), as an Adjunct Faculty member with Fresno Pacific University and Founder & Partner of Prodigal Clothing, LLC. Tom also worked as a Pastor with Clovis Christian Church for 10 years, beginning in 1996.

His recent philanthropic work includes producing the short documentary film “Forest Man,” which chronicles the story of Jadav Payeng, an Indian man who planted nearly 1,400 acres of forest to save his island, Majuli. It was awarded the Best Documentary prize at the Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at the Cannes Film Festival.

Among numerous organizations, he is the Fresno Chapter Founder for the Citizens Climate Lobby (which works to create political will for a sustainable climate), a Board Member of the Solar Living Institute (a non-profit solar training organization promoting sustainable living through environmental education), a Board Member for Restore Hetch Hetchy (a non-profit working to return the Yosemite National Park to its natural splendor) and a Board Member, past President & Chairman of the Board of the International Green Industry Hall of Fame (a non-profit that promotes ecological sustainability worldwide through recognizing outstanding achievements in the Green Industry with an educational forum for the international public).

Among volunteer causes, Tom is a Mentor with The Climate Reality Project, where he guides new Climate Leaders in their own communities and countries to facilitate change. He serves as a Creation Care Champion with the Evangelical Environmental Network, preaching & teaching about environmental stewardship at churches, ministries, schools and groups.

He earned Bachelor’s degrees in Education and Literature from Ozark Christian College, alongside a Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from the University of California in Riverside, and certification from Sandler Training, which provides sales performance improvement, sales management development, consulting and training. He is trained and licensed as a Tiny Habits® coach by Dr. BJ Fogg who founded and directs the Persuasive Technology Lab at Stanford University.
